While replacing a lightbulb, utility department employee Chris Rabe took some pictures of the swimming pool from the bucket truck.
Street Department employees are finishing up applying the 30-tubes of caulking required to get the swimming pool ready for the Friday, June 8th opening. They plan to start filling the pool with water on Wednesday morning.
The pool repair crew is on schedule. They have finished the patchwork and are starting to apply the gel coat. If they make sufficient progress on the gel coat today - they may be finished by noon on Saturday. There is a 72 to 96 hour cure time for the gel coat, depending upon the temperature. While the gel coat is curing the street department will be applying caulk to the expansion joints, etc. If nothing unexpected comes up the pool could start to be filled on Wednesday morning (June 6th), or Thursday morning (June 7th) if the cure requires the full 96-hours. Under either scenario this means that the planned opening of Friday, June 8th is still on track.
(The blue tape, as seen in the picture below, will be removed.)
They started this morning at 6:45 a.m. and should be doing the patching work today. As of yesterday, the crew wasn't sure if they would have to finish up on Saturday...
Mid-America Pool will not be in town until Wednesday, May 30th...one day later than earlier stated.
