What do the SPP levels mean? See below:
- Level 0 – No SPP Balancing Authority concerns related to maintaining contingency reserves.
- Level 1 – All available resources are committed and there is concern about SPP availability to maintain contingency reserves. Actions include curtailing non-firm energy sales, commit all available resources (including offline resources), request any and all behind the meter generation, identify any and all generation outages that can be recalled or postponed, identify any and all transmission outages that can be recalled or postponed and conservation.
- Level 2 – SPP is no longer capable of expected energy requirements and is energy deficient as a whole, but still able to maintain minimum contingency reserves. Maximum emergency generation notifications exist until further notice, postpone or recall any available generation outages, postpone or recall any available transmission outages, invoke assistance from neighboring entities based on Emergency Operating Agreements, initiate non-firm load curtailment, and make public pleas for reduced energy use and conservation.
- Level 3 – SPP is unable to meet minimum contingency reserves and is energy deficient. SPP will initiate firm load interruption.
More information about the levels may be found in the document linked below, starting on page 27.
