St. Marys Fire Department
Administrative Fire Calls (785) 437-3605 • Emergency Calls 911

The St. Marys Fire Department consists of one (1) full-time paid position and 21 paid-per-call volunteer members.  The full-time position’s primary responsibilities are for equipment maintenance, hydrant testing, handling small calls, record keeping, buildings and grounds cleaning, annual pump and hose test, and meeting preparation.  The volunteer members are paid $10 per call and $10 per hour after the first hour.  The Fire Department is responsible for calls within the city limits, as well as all of Pottawatomie County Fire District #1.  Fire District #1 starts at the Pottawatomie/Shawnee county line to the east and continues westward to approximately 1 mile west of Belvue.  The southern border is the river channel and the north border is Holy Cross road just south of Emmett.  There is an area south of the river known as the “Holvorson Island” that is also in Fire District #1.  Moreover, the Department provides fire protection for a small section of Wabaunsee County south of the 9th street bridge, as well as to the Jeffrey Energy Center.

The main fire station is at 405 Lasley, with a secondary facility at 902 W. Mission (power house building).  The main station houses 2 pumpers (1 city and 1 rural), 2 grass/brush units, a 85' ladder truck, 1 rescue and equipment truck plus 1- 3000 gallon tanker unit.  Personal protective gear lockers are also provided for each firefighter in this building.  There is a training room, an exercise room, and a dispatch center for communications.  The department has its own radio frequency for a better control of information as well as timely information gathering when needed.  This system is capable of reaching all of our neighboring departments when they are in need of help or if we are in need of their help as well.  The second facility is north of the railroad tracks and houses 1 pumper and 2 grass/brush units, some personal protective gear, 2 fuel driven generator plants for scene lighting, as well as providing power for station #1 during power outages.
